Alkrington the winners of the Ladies Division 1 Manchester District Tennis League for the first time since 1988
In 1911 the development of Alkrington Garden Village began with the first houses being built. In 1922 a group of residents negotiated a lease for the land for the club house, 2 Grass Courts and 2 Shale Courts – and this was the start of Alkrington Tennis & Social Club. Ladies & Gentlemen’s teams were formed and joined the Manchester District Tennis League. The club has gone from strength to strength in recent years; in social events and also with the amount of new members which has led to the addition of a Ladies B team and the Ladies A team gaining new team players.
The club celebrated their centenary year last year with many social and tennis related events sponsored by Temperley Taylor LLP
This season the Ladies A team, which includes are very own conveyancer Lauren Carroll, have been competing in the Manchester District Tennis League; this meant that going into the final game of the season they were 1 point ahead of the previous year’s winners Prestwich. The final match was played at home against Prestwich on Wednesday 16th August where they won the match 5-4 with over 50 spectators in attendance, to make Alkrington the winners of the Ladies Division 1 Manchester District Tennis League for the first time since 1988.
